| Burglary
Foiled; Lawmen Seek Second Suspect |
| |
Officers responding to a
possible breaking and entering call in the Salem area say they caught a suspect
on the premises.
Detectives believe that Lamont Ambers Spurling (right), 42, of 329 Jacobs Lane, Morganton may not have
acted alone in the burglary.
Spurling is accused of breaking into Mace
Automotive on Propst Road, on November 23rd. |
 |
|
| According to Burke County Detective Robert
Beall, the Sheriff's Office received a "breaking and entering in progress" call
around 2:50 a.m. and deputies responded, along with Broughton police officer
Glenn Cannon and Morganton Department of Public Safety officer Marty
McNeely. |
| |
| Cannon and McNeely reportedly arrived at the
garage and found Spurling in the parking lot area. Spurling was nabbed with
assistance from McNeely's K-9, "Kelly." |
| |
| Deputies arrived and discovered the business had
been burglarized, Beall said. The detective further stated that Spurling had
been attempting to steal a vehicle from the parking lot before he was
apprehended. |
| |
| Authorities searched the scene, but were
unsuccessful in locating another suspect. |
| |
| Beall said that authorities were looking to
question a second person in the case, Timothy Wayne Poole. Poole is also wanted
on several outstanding warrants. |
| |
| The building at Mace's sustained approximately
$400 in damages, Beall said. An additional $400 worth of damage was done to the
vehicle. |
| |
| Spurling was charged with felonious breaking,
entering and larceny, and felonious possession of stolen property. He was
jailed at the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $20,000 bond
and had a first court appearance on November 24th. |
