Arrested for Sexual Assault of Five-Year-Old |

A
sixty-year-old Connelly Springs man has been charged with taking indecent
liberties with a five-year-old child, after the man reportedly lured the girl
inside of his residence with a promise of candy, then molested
her.

neighborhood candy and ice cream, according to Burke County Detective Crystal

| The assault allegedly took place at Abernathy's
8225 Payton Lane residence, located in the Fieldview Acres Mobile Home Park
near Icard. The child and her family reportedly lives in close proximity to
Abernathy. |

| Watts said the assault occurred on January 1st,
and was reported to the Sheriff's Office that day by the child's mother.
Abernathy was picked up at his residence around 2:00 AM on January 2nd and
taken to the Sheriff's Office for questioning. |

| Investigators said that after completion of the
interview, Abernathy was arrested and jailed under a $25,000 secured bond.
Watts said the indecent liberties charge stems from Abernathy fondling the
vaginal area of the girl. |

| The investigation will remain open as detectives
continue to question other neighborhood children in order to establish if there
may be more victims, Watts stated. |
