Detectives with the Burke County Sheriff's Office have made an arrest in the burglaries of several lake residences, occurring during a week span in February.

According to Detectives Robert Beall and Chris Marsh, Brandon Kyle McNeil (right), 28, of 225 Finley Road, Marion is responsible for at least five Burke County home invasions occurring February 6-11, and at least one other break-in in McDowell County.

McNeil is accused of stealing a number of items from the home of Wayne Brackett of Highway 64 South, Morganton. The break-in was reported on February 6th.

On February 8th, Larry Biggerstaff of Benfield's Landing Road reported several guns stolen from his home, and on February 11th, Mike Watts reported a burglary to his house on Lake James. Watts lives approximately one mile from Biggerstaff, according to detectives.

Also on February 11th, two residences were burglarized in the Laurel Point community of Lake James.

Lawrence Dark reported the theft of coins from his home, and Russ Leopard reported several items stolen from his residence.

A three-week investigation with the aid of McDowell County Detectives Dan Shook and Sharon Carpenter resulted in McNeil's arrest, Beall and Marsh said. The detectives stated that arrest warrants were issued at the conclusion of several interviews and leads which implicated McNeil.

McNeil is also the suspect of a Lake Club Drive burglary in McDowell County, the investigators said.

McNeil, who was arrested on February 24th, is currently charged with felonious breaking, entering and larceny, felonious possession of stolen goods, and larceny of a firearm. Additional charges are pending as he remains in the Burke County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
