"Most Wanted" Suspect Captured Sunday

A Morganton man who was placed on Burke County's "Ten Most Wanted" list five days ago was captured Sunday after a foot chase with deputies.

Bobby Allen Johnson, Jr. (right), 30, of 3427 Jamestown Road, Morganton, was wanted for numerous crimes, including assault with a deadly weapon and first degree burglary, according to Detective Robert Beall of the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office received a tip on March 6th that Johnson was at his father's house, Beall said. At around 7:25 P.M.., Detective Chris Marsh and Deputy Joe Lo approached the house, where Marsh made visual contact with Johnson, Beall said.

Johnson reportedly attempted to flee on foot, but the officers gave chase and apprehended the man as he tried to climb a fence on Jamestown Road which leads to Interstate 40.

Johnson was added to Burke County's "most wanted" list for the third time last week, investigators said.

"We would like to thank the News Herald and citizens who called with information on Johnson," said Beall. "He has evaded capture for approximately seven months."

In addition to the assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury and first degree burglary charges, Johnson was jailed on warrants charging him with felonious breaking, entering and larceny, felonious possession of stolen property, failure to appear on child support, and assault on a female. He had a first court appearance on Monday.

Johnson remains jailed under a $27,100 secured bond for all charges unrelated to child support. He is also under a cash bond of $18,319.95 for the non-payment of child support allegations.
