Arrested in Connelly Springs Break-In |
| |
An alert deputy on patrol
factored into the arrest of a Connelly Springs man, who is accused of
burglarizing his neighbor's home.
Connelly Springs community police
deputy David South was patrolling the Shady Grove/Tomlinson Loop area Monday
when he encountered Richard David Spann (right),
41, of 2437 Israel Chapel Church Road, Connelly Springs. Spann reportedly had
several items of property in his possession. |
 |
|
| The encounter took place near the residence of
Christopher Brittain, who lives at 1041 Tomlinson Loop. Spann lives only a
short distance away from Brittain, according to reports. |
| |
| According to a news release, Spann gave the
deputy a plausible story of why he was in possession of the items. Unable to
contact the property owner, South released Spann. |
| |
| A short time later, South was able to contact
Brittain, who discovered a burglary had occurred at his home and items were
missing. |
| |
| South immediately located Spann and took him
into custody, according to the release. Spann reportedly cooperated with
investigators, and the stolen property was recovered. |
| |
| "The effectiveness of our community police
programs throughout Burke County was exemplified today," said Sheriff John T.
McDevitt. "This burglary may not have been solved had it not been for a deputy
who knows his community and realized something wasn't quite right." |
| |
| Spann was charged with felonious breaking,
entering and larceny, and felonious possession of stolen property. He was
jailed under a $2,000 bond and will have a first court appearance
today. |
