Five teens have been arrested in connection with the theft of firearms during a party on June 25th.

Daryl Carswell of 2649 Highway 64 South reported on June 26th that his daughter invited a few friends over to his residence for a small private party while he and his wife were away overnight, Detective Robert Beall of the Sheriff's Office said.

The Saturday night party grew out of control after several uninvited people showed up, Beall stated. Carswell noticed the theft of four firearms and other miscellaneous property when he arrived home Sunday.

A two week investigation into the case yielded the arrest of the teens.

"We discovered that several people who attended this party also attended the party at Sanford Welborn's home earlier this year," said Beall. In that case, six people were arrested after the unauthorized party at Welborn's residence resulted in over $15,000 in damages.

Arrested in the Carswell case are Morganton residents Matthew Renni Peirce, 16, of 2085 Steamer Lane;  Randy Blake Wright, 19, of 4551 Old Highway 18; Marc Eugene Dunn, 18, of 310 Highridge Drive; Jonathan David Powell, 19, of 3415 Ridgewood Drive; and Eric Stephen Messick, 16, of 114 Parker Lane.

Peirce, Wright, Dunn, and Powell were charged with larceny of firearms and misdemeanor larceny. Messick was charged with possession of stolen firearms. Peirce was jailed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $25,000 secured bond, while the other four teens were released into the custody of their parents.
