Deputy Cracks Crack Case |
| |
Investigators
with the Burke County Narcotics Task Force encountered a crack problem of a
different kind Wednesday, when they reportedly recovered 93 crack cocaine rocks
from a man's rectum.
22-year-old Matthew David Pardue (right) of 2213 Drexel Heights, Morganton was charged
with felonious possession of crack cocaine after detectives searched the man
and his vehicle. |
 |
|
| Burke County deputy Dustin McKinney stopped
Pardue's vehicle near Zion Road and Highway 64-70 after witnessing what
appeared to be a drug transaction, according to a Burke County Narcotics Task
Force news release. |
| |
| Task Force officers were called to the scene to
assist McKinney. Pardue attempted to flee from the officers at one point, the
news release stated, but was quickly taken into custody. |
| |
| "More and more people seem to be putting their
illicit drugs in places that the sun doesn't shine," said one investigator.
"They think officers are too proud or embarrassed to search those places. We're
not." |
| |
| "Hiding drugs inside body orifices only
solidifies our case," the investigator continued. "It's hard for a defense
attorney to argue that his client didn't know the drugs were in there." |
| |
| According to Burke County Sheriff's Office
records, Pardue has been
arrested several times in the past three years for possessing and selling
drugs. |
| |
| Pardue was also charged with resisting,
obstructing and delaying an officer, and driving left of center. He was jailed
under a $50,000 secured bond and will have a first court appearance
tomorrow. |
