Randy Bumgarner

Four people are in jail for breaking, entering and larceny after being caught in the act, according to investigators with the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

The four suspects were caught after Wade Shepherd, Sr. of Henry River Road, Hildebran detected them on his property on December 1st and summoned deputies, said Sgt. Robert Beall of the Sheriff's Office.

Beall said that on the previous day, family members of Shepherd had discovered three people stealing metals from the man's property. The family members reportedly ran off the suspects, who were in a white Ford Ranger displaying an expired tag.

The suspects were caught when they returned to the property the next day and attempted to steal the materials. Beall said the suspects' vehicle was the same Ford Ranger previously discovered by Shepherd's family.

Beall stated that the investigation establishes the suspects had been on the property several times to steal metal before they were caught.

Charged with B&E&L and jailed under $10,000 secured bonds were William David Ward, 40, and Amy Lyn Ward, 31, both of 152 Liberty Drive, North Wilkesboro. Also charged was Frances Smith Murphy, 58, of 200 L1 Alfred Hartly Road, Lenoir, and Randy Dwayne Bumgarner, 43, of 203 F A Foster Road, Wilkesboro.
