Bathroom Bandit Caught |
| |
 |
A suspect, who
is believed to be the woman responsible for stealing numerous Burke County
residents' property after faking her way into their homes, was caught during a
traffic stop on Saturday.
Burke County detectives have had their eye on
Shannon Bell Coleman (left), 33, for a short
period of time, Det. Lt. Becky Brendle said. The investigator stated Coleman
was identified as the person responsible for scamming her way into unsuspecting
good Samaritans lives. |
|
| Coleman, who's address is listed as 4176
Chambers Chapel Circle, Morganton, was arrested by deputies on Highway 18 North
and charged with two counts of felonious financial card transaction, and
obtaining property by false pretense. |
| |
| The false pretense charge is the result of
Coleman going to different houses and requesting the person answering the door
to allow her to use their bathroom, or in some instances their telephone,
Brendle said. |
| |
| The good Samaritans who complied would later
find credit cards and other property missing after her departure, the
investigator said. |
| |
| Coleman was jailed in the Burke Catawba District
Confinement Facility under a $31,000 bond and was scheduled for a first court
appearance this morning in Burke County District Court. |
| |
| "We hope the arrest will wrap up this case,"
said Sheriff John T. McDevitt. "There's always the possibility that others out
there allowed her into their homes and never realized that she stole their
property." |
