| Meth Lab Busted in Morganton |
| |
Officers who raided a
residence on Airpark Drive in Morganton said their suspect was cooking a batch
of methamphetamine when they entered his home Wednesday afternoon, armed
with a search warrant.
When he was arrested, Joseph James Taylor (right), 26, of Lot 8E was wearing a "DARE" (Drug Abuse
Resistance Education) t-shirt, a reward typically given to fifth-graders in
Burke County upon completing the anti-drug program taught by officers. |
 |
|
| Several mobile homes in the trailer park were
evacuated as a precaution, said Burke County Narcotics Task Force Lieutenant
Alex Cobb, because of the volatile nature of meth labs. Cobb said that
potential harmful vapors or an explosion necessitated the evacuation. |
| |
| Several agencies participated in the raid,
including the Task Force, Morganton Department of Public Safety, and Burke
County Sheriff's Office. Special agents with the N.C. State Bureau of
Investigation were also present, including their response team who is charged
with the responsibility of dismantling clandestine laboratories. |
| |
| Taylor was charged with possession with intent
to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, and with manufacturing the
drug. He will have a first court appearance tomorrow and remains in jail under
a $35,000 secured bond. |
