Woman Facing Charges of Shooting Fiance

A Connelly Springs man was shot in the stomach on Monday afternoon, and his fiancee has been charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Burke County deputies responded to Grace Hospital after medical personnel advised that a man, Henry Pruett came into the facility with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to investigating authorities, Pruett was shot with a .22 caliber pistol by Jessica Lee King (above, right), 31, at the couple's 7396 Corn Hill Road residence. The shooting reportedly occurred during a domestic disturbance while the couple struggled over the gun.

A minor child and a handicapped person were at the residence at the time, a detective stated. The Burke County Department of Social Services was notified of the incident.

"A misdemeanor warrant instead of a felony warrant was issued against King, because there was arguably no 'intent to kill' element of the crime," said CID Lt. Becky Brendle.

King posted a $1,000 secured bond at the magistrate's office and will have a district court appearance on May 24th.
