Hardin Arrested for Twice Burglarizing Store

An 18-year-old is in jail, charged with breaking into a store two times within a three-day period.

Burke County investigators charged David Lee Hardin (left), of 2351 Lail Road, Morganton on Tuesday with two counts of breaking, entering and larceny, and two counts of possessing stolen goods.

Hardin will have a first court appearance this morning in Burke County District Court.

According to reports, Steve Morgan of Morgan's Trading Post, located on Highway 18 North, contacted the Sheriff's Office on May 2nd after discovering his business had been burglarized during the night.

Morgan contacted the Sheriff's Office again on May 5th to report another burglary. As in the previous break-in, the suspect broke out the front door glass and entered, stealing an undisclosed amount of money from the business.

Detectives developed a suspect, described as a white male who frequented the store while driving a burgundy colored car with a temporary license plate. The license tag number was traced to Hardin.

On Wednesday, detectives learned the suspect vehicle was on Little John's Church Road in Caldwell County.

Caldwell County deputies assisted Burke investigators in locating the vehicle, and Hardin reportedly arrived while the officers checked the car. He was arrested after being identified by Morgan and confessing to the crimes, according to detectives.

Hardin remains in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $20,000 bond.
