Sex Offender Charged for Notification Violation

Burke County detectives say that convicted sex offender John Henry Taylor failed to advise them of an address change as required by law.

The investigators tagged him Friday with one extra change of address; the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility.

Taylor (left), 58, was arrested in Lenoir and returned to Burke County, where a warrant for failing to register his change of address was served.

Taylor was reportedly living at 1407 Marriman Street, Lenoir, but never shared that information with authorities, who had been looking for him for several weeks.

According to the N.C. Department of Corrections website, Taylor spent over seven years in prison after being convicted in August,1997 for a second degree sexual offense.

"Knowing where convicted sexual offenders are living is of the utmost importance to the community," said Burke County Sheriff John T. McDevitt. "We won't hesitate to prosecute an offender for this type of violation."

Taylor was jailed under a $50,000 bond and will have a first court appearance today.
