Large Quantity of Meth Seized; Keller Arrested

Officers with the Burke County Narcotics Task Force and Morganton Department of Public Safety executed a search warrant Monday and seized a half-pound of methamphetamine, according to a news release.

The methamphetamine, commonly referred to as "ice" or "crank," is believed to be imported from Mexico because of its packaging and appearance, according to one detective with the Task Force.

Authorities have charged Robert "Blake" Keller (right), 45, of 109 Keller Avenue, Morganton with trafficking a schedule II drug.

The officers, along with Morganton's SWAT team, converged on the residence and arrested Keller without incident, the news release stated. Several other people inside the residence were detained and may be facing charges.

"We've been hearing Blake Keller's name a long time in association with illicit drug activity," said Burke County Sheriff John T. McDevitt. "It's a good feeling to catch him with the goods."

In addition to the drugs, officers reportedly confiscated currency, drug paraphernalia and a number of weapons.

Keller was jailed under a $26,000 bond and will have a first court appearance on Thursday. Additional charges are pending, investigators stated.
