| Deputy Gives Chase; Reid Faces
Cocaine Charges |
| |
 |
Burke County Deputy
Brandon Crotts only wanted to stop Valdese resident Tron Tyrone Dixon Reid for
a tinted window violation.
Unfortunately for Reid (left), 23, the May 30th traffic stop snowballed to five
felony warrants after the man allegedly tried to elude the deputy during a car
chase and foot pursuit.
Crotts initially stopped Reid's vehicle on I-40
at the |
115 mile marker for the tinted window violation,
according to a news release. |
| |
| When the deputy
approached Reid's car, the man reportedly sped away and Crotts gave chase to
the 113 exit and onto Perkins Road. |
| |
| The release stated that
Reid threw a box out of the vehicle window during the chase, which later was
found to contain several bags of cocaine totaling slightly over one-half
pound, or 234 grams. |
| |
| Reid stopped his vehicle
at Village Apartments in Valdese and ran a short distance, investigators said,
but was apprehended by Crotts. |
| |
| Reid, of 1632 Berrytown
Avenue, was charged with felonious trafficking in cocaine by possession,
transportation, and manufacturing. He was also charged with possession with
intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, and felonious speeding to
elude arrest. |
| |
| Additional charges,
including the tinted window violation, are pending as Reid will have a first
court appearance on May 31st. His bond was set for $75,000. |
| |
| The Burke County
Narcotics Task Force, Burke County Sheriff's Office, and Valdese Police
Department assisted in the case. |
