Burke Sex Offender Jailed in Baton Rouge

A convicted sexual offender from Burke County is in a Baton Rouge, Louisiana jail after allegedly fondling a juvenile he was rooming with during a church-related trip.

The father of the unidentified juvenile contacted Burke authorities on June 29th and told investigators that Domiontae Omar Robinson (right), 21, of 612 East Concord Street, Morganton sexually assaulted his son as he slept during the Baton Rouge trip.

Robinson and the boy were reportedly in a room with chaperones from the Harvest Praise Church, and were sharing a bed.

Sheriff John T. McDevitt was upset that church personnel allegedly knew Robinson was a convicted sexual offender, but allowed the man to be involved in a capacity that put him in direct contact with children.

According to one investigator, Robinson has been allowed to accompany the church youth on numerous overnight functions.

"I understand that churches should show love and compassion," McDevitt said, "but they also need to utilize common sense to alleviate this kind of problem."

Louisiana authorities arrested Robinson and charged him with indecent behavior with a child. He remains jailed under a $175,000 bond.

Court records show Robinson was convicted of indecent liberties with a child on November 6th, 2002. He was sentenced to 36 months of probation and required to register with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.

Sheriff's officials are investigating the possibility of other victims in Burke County being sexually assaulted by Robinson, and requests anyone with pertinent information to contact the criminal investigations division at (828) 438-5506.
