| Duane Jailed for Statutory Rape
of 13-Year-Old |

A Connelly Springs man is
in jail after investigators with the Burke County Sheriff's Office charged him
Tuesday with the statutory rape of a teenager.
Jerry Dale Duane
(right), 35, of 5775 Hubert Lane, was also
charged with taking indecent liberties with the victim, a 13-year old female.
The two sex charges stem from an alleged two month relationship
between Duane and the girl, occurring June through July of this year. |

| An interview with the
girl was conducted at the Child Advocacy Center in Morganton, a detective said.
During this interview, it was revealed that Duane became friends with the
child's family after they moved to the area from Florida, according to the
investigator. |

| The friendship escalated
to a sexual relationship between Duane and the girl shortly afterwards, the
detective alleges. |
| |
| Duane was jailed under a
$25,000 secured bond and had a first court appearance this morning. |
| |
| The North Carolina State
Bureau of Investigation is also involved with the investigation. |
