|
| Two Caldwell County men
have been accused in connection with the theft of copper products from two
Burke County locations. |
| |
| Michael Richard Stout,
30, of 302 Spruce Avenue, Hudson was arrested Thursday and charged with one
count of breaking and entering, two counts of felonious larceny, and two counts
of possession of stolen goods. |
| |
| The charges stem from an
April 30th theft from Cleberts Hosiery Mill, located at 3015 Berea Church Road
in Connelly Springs. Three heat pumps and copper wiring, reportedly worth
approximately $10,000, was stolen from the business. |
| |
| The second theft was
reported by Duke Energy Corporation on July 13th, from the Longview Tie Station
located at 100 39th Street in Hildebran. Officials told deputies that 36 copper
disconnects and six copper ground wires were stolen, the property valued at
$36,020. |
| |
| Detective David South of
the Burke County Sheriff's Office said his investigation led to Stout and
Steven Richard Smith, 33, of 204 Spruce Avenue, Hudson. |
| |
| The copper was sold to
various scrap metal businesses, South said. |
| |
| Smith is in jail in
Caldwell County on unrelated charges. He will be turned over to Burke County
authorities at the conclusion of his court dates in Caldwell. |
| |
| Stout is in the Burke
County Jail under a $30,000 bond and will have a first court appearance
today. |
