| Harris to be Charged with
Stabbing of Drexel Man |
| |
 |
An early
morning stabbing in the Drexel area will result in several charges against a
Connelly Springs man, investigators say.
According to Burke County
Sheriff's Office detectives, Robert Camara Harris (left), 30, of 5126 Mineral Springs Mountain Road stabbed
Randy Fender in the chest with a knife. The two men allegedly got into an
argument on the dirt portion of Butler Hill Road shortly before 2 AM. |
|
| The Sheriff's Office was
called to the emergency room at Grace Hospital and spoke with Fender, 52, who
resides at 1368 Highway 70 in Drexel. |
| |
| Fender told authorities
that Harris had been at his residence for about four hours on Monday night,
when the two left to go to Harris' sister's home on Butler Hill. |
| |
| Fender said Harris led
him to the dirt portion of Butler Hill Road where there was no residence. He
stated that he asked Harris to get out of his vehicle, and Harris produced a
knife and stabbed him in the right-side chest area. |
| |
| The two men allegedly
fought, and Fender told deputies he was able to get away from Harris and get
help. |
| |
| Burke deputies and
officers with the Drexel Police Department located Harris about thirty
minutes later on Zion Road. |
| |
| Harris was in possession
of a stolen vehicle from Drexel, which authorities suspect was taken shortly
after the altercation, said Det. Jody Price. |
| |
| "Harris is no stranger
to this agency," said Burke County Sheriff John T. McDevitt.
"Our detectives arrested
him last month after a chase in which he ran into the woods. We discovered
he was in a stolen vehicle on that occasion as well." |
| |
| Harris was arrested on
an outstanding order for arrest for failing to appear in court. He will be
charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting
serious bodily injury by the Sheriff's Office, Price stated. |
| |
| A larceny of vehicle
charge is expected to be issued by the Drexel Police Department. |
| |
| Harris was jailed at the
Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $2,500 cash bond, and the
other charges are expected to be served later today. |
