Woman Charged with Filing False Report

On November 18, 2006, investigators with the Burke County Sheriff's Office were called to Grace Hospital in reference to a female reporting that she was forcibly kidnapped and raped.

Sherry Lynn Mullins (right), 35, of 318 Walker Road, was arrested on November 22, 2006 for filing a false report to law enforcement.

According to detectives, Mullins stated that she and her seven year old son were kidnapped by knife point, by an unknown male subject, and forced to drive the three to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

Mullins stated that once at Myrtle Beach, the male subject obtained a motel room and held her and the son hostage. She further stated that she was repeatedly raped by the unknown male before he passed out, due to being heavily intoxicated.

Detectives said that Mullins then advised, after the male subject passed out, she grabbed her son and fled the motel back to Burke County.

After an intense investigation, detectives with the Sheriff's Office were able to determine that the victim had a relationship with alleged male suspect and freely left with him.

Sherry Lynn Mullins was jailed at the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $1,000 secure bond for filing a false report to law enforcement. She will have a first court appearance on December 18, 2006.
