Student Charged with Possessing a Weapon on School Property
 
  Zachary Jay Barringer, 18, left, was charged with felony possession of a weapon on school property.

On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at approximately 9:00 am, the Burke County Sheriff's Office was contacted by school resource officer Hudson at East Burke High School in reference to a student possessing a firearm on school property.
 
According to investigators with the Sheriff's Office, they responded to the school and found Zachary Jay Barringer in the principal's office. Investigators learned that Barringer had informed the principal he had a firearm in his vehicle. It was also learned that Barringer had allegedly made some threats.
 
Investigators advised that during the search of Barringer's vehicle, a firearm was located, two knives, assorted military manuals, a gas mask, and a military style helmet.
 
Barringer was arrested for felony possession of a weapon on school property. He was taken before the magistrate and released to his mother's custody. First court appearance is set for January 31, 2007.
