Husband and Wife Dead Following Domestic Dispute

On March 17, 2007, at approximately 7:42 pm, the Burke County Sheriff's Office was called to respond to the scene of a domestic violence call with shots fired at 2894 Hallyburton Road Lot 2, Morganton.

William Randolph Reagan, Jr., 40, right, and his wife, Carol Denice Reagan, 37, were both found unconscious upon the deputies arriving at the residence.

After the deputies arrived, they discovered that both the male and female had suffered gun shot wounds. There were two children in the home, ages 10 and 13. The children were escorted outside with other officers while EMS personnel attended to the injured couple. The children were later placed with family members.

Burke County EMS found both adults to be deceased as a result of gun shot wounds. The Burke County Sheriff's Office investigators were called to the scene, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, to begin the investigation into the deaths.

After several hours of investigation, all evidence and witness statements are consistent with a murder/suicide. The case is still under investigation pending results from autopsies and state laboratory results.
