Man Found Dead After Altercation

On Tuesday, May 2, 2007, at approximately 5:00 am the Burke County Sheriff's Office responded to 3203 Cobb Hollow Drive in Morganton in reference to a death. Deputies arrived and found the victim deceased outside the residence.

Guillermo Jiminez Perez, 49, right, of 101-D Roper St., was identified as the subject found deceased.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division, as well as Special Agents of the NC State Bureau of Investigation responded to investigate and process the scene. During the investigation, it was learned that the victim had supposedly been involved in an altercation at his residence, sometime over the weekend, in which he was assaulted.
 
The victim allegedly left walking from his place of employment on Monday, April 30, 2007. A friend of the victim gave him a ride to a co-worker's residence on Cobb Hollow Drive. The victim allegedly consumed alcohol while visiting the co-worker, and stayed the night at the co-worker's residence. The victim was found deceased by the co-worker around 5:00 am on Tuesday morning.
 
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007 at Baptist Hospital. The investigation is continuing at this time.
