Woman Charged with Assault With a Deadly Weapon

Tara Danielle McGaha, 34, left, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, stemming from an incident that occurred over the weekend.

On Sunday, August 12, 2007, at approximately 6:21 am, the Burke County Sheriff's Office responded to 6955 Nuckolls Drive off Goldmine Road in reference to a subject with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Deputies arrived at the scene and spoke to the victim, William Christopher Goins, of Granite Falls, NC.

Goins stated that he and his girlfriend, Tara McGaha, had been arguing and McGaha reportedly shot him once in the leg with a .22 caliber rifle.

Detectives with the Sheriff's Office were contacted and began an investigation. After interviewing Goins and McGaha, as well as reviewing all circumstances, investigators found that McGaha had no justification in using deadly force.

Detectives arrested McGaha and she was confined at the Burke Catawba Detention Facility. She was placed under a $50,000.00 secured bond. First court appearance is scheduled for August 13, 2007.
