Arrested for Voluntary Manslaughter |
Edward Calvin Haan, III, 41, of 4551 Doublehead Drive,
Connelly Springs, NC was arrested on December 6, 2008 for voluntary
manslaughter.
On Saturday, November 29, 2008, the Burke County Sheriff's
Office received a call from 4551 Doublehead Drive in Connelly Springs in
reference to a shooting incident where one person was deceased. |

| When deputies
arrived on scene they met Mr. Edward Haan in the front yard of the residence.
Haan told the deputy his wife had shot herself. The deputy entered the
residence and located the victim, Mrs. Diann Miller Haan, deceased with a
gunshot wound to the head. |

| The deputy on
scene also located a five year old boy in the kitchen area of the residence.
The juvenile was carried outside by the deputy and the residence was
secured. |

| The Burke
County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division was contacted to
investigate. |

| During the
investigation, detectives learned Mr. Haan and his wife had been drinking. Haan
stated his wife was threatening to shoot herself. |

| According to
Haan, when he attempted to take the gun away from his wife, the gun went off,
causing the death of Mrs. Haan. |
| |
| Haan was
charged with voluntary manslaughter and placed in the Burke County Jail under a
$50,000.00 secured bond. Haan will have a first court appearance on December 8,
2008 at 9:00 am. |
