Local Man Stabbed at his Home

 
On January 25, 2009, Michael Eric Nord, 44, of 4395 Valley Trails Road Morganton, NC was arrested and charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The stabbing occurred at 4291 Valley Trails Road, the home of the victim, David Lash Hanna.
On January 25, 2009, at approximately 4:00 pm, the Burke County Sheriff's Office was notified of a possible stabbing at 4291 Valley Trails Road.
Upon the arrival of deputies, they found David Lash Hanna injured and lying in a vehicle that was parked outside his home. According to deputies he appeared to have been a victim of a stabbing incident.
Deputies were able to locate Michael Eric Nord, who was the alleged person responsible for the injuries to Mr. Hanna. Deputies notified the Criminal Investigations Division to conduct a further investigation into the incident.
 
Burke County detectives were able to obtain interviews from neighbors and witnesses about the incident. It was learned that Mr. Michael Nord was returning home and encountered Mr. David Hanna walking along Valley Trails Road. Mr. Nord had stopped and exited his vehicle and approached Mr. Hanna. According to Mr. Nord, he only wanted to talk with Mr. Hanna about a problem in the neighborhood involving both men.
Mr. Nord had suspected Mr. Hanna of committing numerous larcenies throughout the neighborhood and approached him to warn him not to be around his property. The verbal confrontation quickly turned violent and Mr. Nord and Mr. Hanna began to fight. During the fight, Mr. Nord used a knife and allegedly stabbed Mr. Hanna three times, causing Mr. Hanna to become severely injured.
 
Shortly after the stabbing Mr. Nord was able to return to his vehicle and drive away. The fight took place near the Hanna home and left both men needing medical attention.
 
Mr. David Hanna was flown to Carolinas Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition. He has suffered three stab wounds; one to the head, one to the shoulder, and one to his side. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening as of the time of this release.
 
Mr. Nord was treated and released from Grace Hospital, where he received two stitches to a right hand finger.
 
Mr. Nord was arrested for one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Burke Catawba Detention Facility under a $25.000.00 secured bond. His first appearance was January 26, 2009.
