Martin Lawing Chosen as National Sheriff's Association 2009 Deputy Sheriff of the Year

 
The Burke County Sheriff's Office received notification on February 13, 2009, that Investigator Martin Lawing had been selected to receive the Charles "Bud" Meeks Award for 2009 Deputy Sheriff of the Year.

Lawing was selected from a group of candidates nominated nationwide.
The selection was made at the National Sheriff's Association mid-winter conference in Washington, DC in January.
 
Investigator Lawing will be given the award at the National Sheriff's Association Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL in June of 2009.
 
Investigator Lawing was wounded on December 11, 2007 during a stand-off. He was left paralyzed as a result of a gun shot wound to his neck. Click here for story.
