Update: Local Judge Passes Away

 
On the evening of July 19, 2009, at approximately 8:00 pm, Judge John Mull was enjoying an evening with friends and family along the banks of the Catawba River. The Mull family owns property off Jamison Drive in Glen Alpine, where the incident occurred.
 
It was reported shortly after John Mull rendered aid to a family member, who was experiencing difficulty swimming, friends and family of Mr. Mull found him unresponsive and under water.
 
Once Mr. Mull was brought to shore it was determined that he was not breathing and was in need of medical assistance. CPR was conducted on Mr. Mull by friends and family members until first responders and EMS arrived to take over the rescue efforts.
 
Mr. Mull was transported to Grace Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
 
The Burke County Sheriff's Office began the initial investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Mr. Mull.
 
The investigation is now closed and the incident has been ruled an accidental drowning.
 
An investigator with the Burke County Sheriff's Office, who was assigned to handle the initial investigation, has been briefed by the medical examiner's office, and it has been concluded by their findings to be an accidental drowning.
