Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

 
 
James Dean Farr, 29, of 6272 Byrd Farm Road Connelly Springs, NC, was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder after an incident that occurred on Tallent Road in Morganton, NC.

On March 27, 2010, at 5:56 am, the Burke County Sheriff's Office responded to 4511 Tallent Road Lot 5 in reference to a shooting incident. 
 
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with Tammy Renee Stamey who advised James Leon Carpenter had been shot.
 
Stamey told deputies she and Carpenter were in bed when they heard a knock on their door and someone say "Burke County Sheriff's Office." Stamey said deputies had been at her residence earlier and thought they had returned.
 
Stamey advised that James Carpenter went to the door and when he opened the door someone started shooting. Stamey stated she ran back to the bedroom and called 911, but her phone went dead before she could speak with anyone.
 
Stamey said that James Dean Farr came to the back bedroom and pointed a small black gun at her. She said she begged Farr not to shoot her because she had a baby. Farr then demanded to know where the keys to her truck were and she told him. Ms. Stamey said that Farr got the keys and left in her 1983 Ford F150 truck.
 
James Leon Carpenter was transported to the hospital by Burke County EMS and was then airlifted to Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville for further treatment.
 
The Burke County Criminal Investigations Division was contacted for further investigation. Investigators learned that James Leon Carpenter had been shot three times.
 
The stolen truck was located by investigators approximately one mile from the suspect's residence.
 
Investigators charged James Dean Farr with attempted first degree murder on James Leon Carpenter. Farr also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest from previous incidents.
 
Farr was arrested at approximately 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Farr has also been charged with assault and battery, assault inflicting serious injury, elude arrest with motor vehicle, breaking and entering, and two counts of habitual felon.
 
Farr was placed in the Burke County Jail under a $500,000.00 secured bond for the attempted first degree murder and additional bonds for all other charges. Total amount of bond for all charges is $688,000.00 secured. First court appearance is scheduled for March 29, 2010.
