Arrest Made in Breaking and Enterings

Joshua Ray Hughes, 19, of 2309 US Highway 70 West, Morganton, NC has been arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, and felonious possession of stolen property.

On Tuesday, March 27, 2012, deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office responded to 2353 US Hwy 70 W in reference to a breaking and entering that had already occurred.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Mr. Ray Stafford. Mr. Stafford reported that someone had broken into his storage buildings and several vacant mobile homes on the property. Mr. Stafford stated he had numerous tools and other items stolen or damaged. Total value of missing property was close to $9,000.00.
On Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division with the Burke County Sheriff's Office. During the investigation, detectives were able to identify Joshua Hughes as a suspect in the break in.
After several weeks of investigation, the Burke County Sheriff's Office was able to issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Hughes after he was found with some of the victim's property in his possession.
Mr. Hughes was arrested and brought to the Burke County Sheriff's Office where he was interviewed and gave a written statement in this crime along with other crimes in the area.
Mr. Hughes was given a $75,000.00 secured bond and placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility. His first court appearance is scheduled for April 30, 2012.
Detectives are expecting to make further arrests in this case and others that have occurred in the same area.
