| Community Affairs
Deputies |
|
| There
are five community deputies serving Burke County. They are assigned to the
communities of Lake James, Jonas Ridge, Rutherford College, Connelly Springs,
and Hildebran. Each officer has been provided with an office, by each
community, at a location within their respective communities. The town of
Connelly Springs has even purchased a Dodge Charger for |
 |
the officer assigned to their
community. The community deputies work in their assigned areas catering to the
law enforcement needs specific to that community. Along with numerous other
responsibilities, these officers attend town meetings, perform saturation
patrols in needed areas, and help to organize community watch programs. Through
these community watch programs, citizens are able to work directly with law
enforcement to ensure a safer community. During the summer months, the Lake
James deputy and school resource deputies out of school for the summer patrol
Lake James to help protect those enjoying one of Burke County's most beautiful
resources. |

| Interstate Criminal Enforcement
Team |
The Interstate Criminal
Enforcement Team, which consists of two officers and their two K-9s, patrol to
target illegal activity along Interstate 40. The criminal no longer has free
reign to use I-40 as a conduit for bringing illegal drugs and other criminal
activity into Burke County. The interstate is not out of bounds for criminal
activity, and the two officers work long hours to protect the county by seizing
hundreds of thousands of dollars in drugs and contraband each year, and
arresting multitudes of fugitives and criminals. |
